Roles/Responsibilities
Sound Designer: For Hex Rally Racers, I worked as the sole Sound Designer for the project. Excluding the music tracks, I was responsible for the ideation, creation, modification, and balancing of every sound effect within the game.
Level Designer: In addition to being the sole Sound Designer, I assisted in the level design process for most of the maps. From concepts to polishing, I would assist with the levels and help where help was needed. You can find all of the Sounds created for Hex Rally Racers below. |

Postmortem
What Went Well?
Learning to look at levels differently: Working as the Sound Designer helped me look at levels in a more cohesive way. It helped me view levels as a collection of dependent connections. Just as a river would sound different if it was in a forest as opposed to a desert, it's important to view levels holistically as everything influences everything.

What Went Wrong?
Lack of Coordination: The biggest hurdle I had was lacking the foresight to plan and account for having sounds being called from a variety of sources. This resulted in a very disorganized approach to containing the scripting for the sound effects, as they were being called and modified from multiple directions at once.

What did I learn?
Sound Design: Starting out, I had no experience as a sound designer. The only reason I volunteered was that I saw that there was a need within the team for one, and I wanted to help out where I could. After this project, I can confidently say that I can sound design with proficiency as I was able to cut my teeth on a lot of techniques through this process.
